There has been a lot of interest in a recent project that we have been working on for the last year. We have been renovating and living in an Airstream full-time. There has been an outpouring of support and encouragement from all over the country as we puzzle out the complications of living in an Airstream travel trailer from the early 70’s in New England.
The requests for technical specs, photos and a blog documenting the project has been constant and overwhelming. We are being cheered on by friends and strangers alike. My first reaction was to decline requests for Blogs and such.
A Blog? Ha! My thought was that no one will follow my boring blog, they take effort and maintenance, I don’t write well, my use of grammar is mediocre, blogging is for the comics, people that are witty, funny, opinionated, famous and my list reasons to not share the Airstream project continued to grow. Finally, someone we consider family bulldozed through our defensive avoidance behaviors. She claimed she wanted to be able to show people what we are building and not having any source of doing so left her trying to describe something that is difficult to describe. So here we are… the first entry. This blog is for you, D and anyone else interested of course.
Although it is an unconventional decision for a couple not of retirement age and with limited resources, it isn’t unheard of. There is a fair bit of judgment and people that seem to be embarrassed on our behalf. I can honestly say that we are comfortable and excited to make this work. People say things like “you wouldn’t be doing this if you had money…” Or “what if you had a million dollars?…” “Surely, if you had a choice…” “guess you didn’t need your college degree…”.
Here is the Airstream on the day we brought it home. It has lovely skin considering the age and condition of the unit.
