A Bit of Frosting

As more and more of the large projects on the punch list get completed, we are left with trim work.  Making the interior look completed and trimmed out properly is slow going and often tedious but the end results really make a difference. Today, the light covers needed to be installed. After hours of looking at different options, we opted for cheap, easy and simple.

Here is a shot of what the yellowed plastic bug filled light covers looked like in all their 1972 glory.

We selected three 16X24 sheets of clear plastic from our local big box store and a frosted rice paper window film. We would have gone with a light color patterned film if we had been able to find something that interested us. We are happy with the the easy install and the fact that it was not a sticker but a film that we can peel off and change if we decide we want something different (like festive snowflakes for example). The film was the most expensive part of the project and worth the expense when you compare them to the clunky airstream light covers that we might have used.

Here is the test fit of the clear plastic before the film was installed.

The film coated cover doesn’t hide the wires completely but does diffuse the LED bulb light a little. I feel that these get the job done and will be easy to clean and change as needed.

Eventually, we hope to replace the knobs too.
