Well, it has been a really long time since I have posted, anything, anywhere. I forgot about tumblr and posting progress entirely. Things have been rapidly changing for us. Winter was another full-time greenhouse airstream success. We were warm and dry with relatively low heating expenses and the greenhouse held up like a champ to wet heavy New England snow.
Spring brought wet muddy conditions and we decided to go on a single destination jaunt to North Carolina with the Airstream. We planned to park there for several months in an RV park and experience a more mobile lifestyle. We have very good friends that live nearby. We towed with ease and the newly overhauled trailer brakes and brake controller were fantastic. The tired old F-150 didn’t sprint over the rolling hills of western Virginia but made good and steady progress over the trip without much strain. We were comfortable at 50-60 mph and WAY slower on the steep inclines and uphill grades.
We have settled into our new parking and have met the rv residents around us. People seem fascinated by the airstream. People drop by and start conversations about it/them regularly and out of the blue. Everyone tells a story about having one, knowing someone that did or does have one or remembrances of seeing them through time. People talk about how they are made, how amazing they look, ideas on how to restore/remodel them and some just want to see it because they have never been inside of one before.
Once, I found it oddly flattering and strange, while towing to NC we pulled into stop at a Waffle House. There was an older couple that kept pointing at our airstream. Eventually, they came over to the table and introduced themselves. They had 5-6 airstreams of their own and after talking to us a bit said they recognized our airstream renovation from our blog and the airforums. I was shocked. People had noticed us and we bumped into them by chance at a stop for breakfast. What are the odds!?
