Bricks and Sticks

After many years of happily living in our Airstreams, we have decided to look for a house to buy. Originally, we wanted to buy a piece of land and live in the Airstream and continue our tiny life. This was found to be almost impossible. Many cities and towns are not in support of the tiny house movement and will not allow services to be installed on properties without a traditional home. We are not keen to buy property only to be told that we are not allowed live life our way. A year ago Andrew and I found ourselves abruptly rolling away leaving our sweet mooch-docking situation with some awesomely generous friends. The confluence of a a sudden death in my family and a need for medical care for someone in Andrew’s family had us relocating quickly. After more than a year away from our best friends and their two small children, we are ready for a change and to get back to moving forward with our plans.

Even with a traditional home, I am committed to keeping the physical stuff accumulated to a minimum. I don’t enjoy cleaning and maintaining piles of stuff. It will be an interesting change for both of us. I will enjoy having land of my own where we can work on the Airstreams. We will see how it all goes. Andrew and I agree that we want to be in close proximity to our best friend and the kids, no neighborhood with amenities, restrictions and HOA fees that often accompany the amenities. I think we would like a small older home that we can add value to with some sweat equity and it must be in our budget.
