Fixer Upper – Week 2

Andrew and my brother have gone to get some of our things from my brother’s storage unit 14 hours away. I thought it would be nice surprise to get his room painted and set up. My brother is working so hard on the house with us. While gathering cleaning supplies from under the kitchen sink, my face and mouth got itchy and my eyes started to water and itch. There was mold somewhere inside that sink base cabinet. We hadn’t planned or budgeted for a kitchen renovation in our second week in the house. I bought paint and then went to scour Ikea AS-IS for epic deals on cabinets.

The view into the kitchen from the bonus room.
This kitchen isn’t particularly pretty but it gets food in our bellies. The mold issue is speeding up our plan to fix things up.
I started by filling holes. Then I covered the newly stained floor and began to prime the walls. The blue puffy cloud ceiling needs to go too.
Tricorn black, gray screen with white trim are the paint colors for a nice guest room. Well, I like them anyway. I had a lot of opinions given to me by others regarding the black paint and dark floors.
I like it.
The room isn’t dark and depressing at all as people asserted it would be. It is fresh and clean for my best guy. I really wNt him to be comfortable and feel like he has his own space while he is here. It would be nice if we had a proper bed for him though. 😉
The walls, ceiling and trim are done! I am really happy with how it came out. My brother is happy to have a space for himself.
We fit some Ikea clearance stuff into the closet so he would have a place to put clothes before I painted.
I did painted the bedroom doors black and the tiny hall gray too. I already had the paint. Why not? I like it and the price was right. I am also putting off the sadness that we found in the kitchen.
The kitchen demolition took about a day and Andrew found mold between the layers of plywood and many layers of linoleum. Just like that, the entire kitchen is coming out.
