1977 Airstream Argosy Motorhome – Wall Repair 1

Dream Boat has this giant patch on the outside and it leaks. All Airstreams leak at some point and I understand that. This is more like raining inside the trailer. I don’t want it to get swampy ferment so I want to tackle the removal of the interior and really figure out what is happening under the soggy patch.

The blue futon, kitchen and refrigerator and cabinet removed. It is going to get worse before it gets better.
Lavatory walls , toilet and vanity
I used Aircraft stripper to chemically strip the giant patch. I made an on the fly decision to strip the entire rig.
The blue and white came off fairly easy but the brown is significantly more difficult to remove.
The door doesn’t have original paint and I wonder if this was a replacement at some point in Dream Boat’s history.
I have been scraping for two days by this point.
I love his face. 💕
So much scraping!
My arms and hands hurt and I opted to skip the actual panel.
UNcle Andrew and the helpers.
Stripping the roof and the uppermost areas was a hassle.
The plastic body filler is being revealed. I stepped away and recoated with more stripper and waited several hours for it to soften this mess.
This is what was left after that heavy coating of extra stripper.
The reaction in the sun of the stripper and paint.
The patch is removed! Stay tuned as we figure out how to patch the hole.
