1960’s Airstream Projects – Exploring Mouse Nests

This is the interior of one of the pair of 1960’s Project Airstreams that we pulled from a field in New England. Andrew went inside with trash bags. He collected trash and mouse nests that were tucked everywhere. One thing lead to another and the simple project snowballed. We dug deeper into the cabinets and behind appliances. More mouse nests have continued to materialize and we are realizing that the interior skins are going to need to come down.

The original interior is really complete and solid. I am not sure what I am going to be able to save and reuse. We are still finding more mouse nests.
All the soft goods are coming out first as they are chewed and mousy.
It looks nicer than it smells.
Good bye couch and piles of mouse debris
Andrew said the entire area behind the refrigerator was jam packed with mouse debris. There are signs of mice inside the wall where the refrigerator exhaust exits through the coach wall to the roof.
The kitchen had to come apart. Mouse nests were in the furnace duct work running the length of the trailer.
Here is a close up of a a small bit of nest dug out of the duct
Clean clean clean
Wrestling this cool vintage fridge out was a bear. To get it to fit out the Airstream door, Andrew removed the curved vintage door of the refrigerator to make it a little slimmer. !
Andrew used a shovel to remove large fluffy smelly piles of mouse house
I have a suspicion we are not going to be able to save a solid portion of the original interior.
