If you haven’t seen the video on how we charge our 2006 Airstream Safari 25ft SS LE with the Solar Saga Panels from our Jackery Explorer 1500, you can find that that video here.
After using the deployable panels for charging the Airstream all spring, we realized that the Jackery Solar Saga solar panel on-board wiring is not really long enough to reach both sides of the Airstream without straining connections. It is not easy to charge from the sun if the sun isn’t on the refrigerator compartment side of the Airstream. To solve this, we are going to install a $14.00 Zamp solar plug in the hitch area. The ability deploy our panels off the ground using the truck bed cover as a platform and maintaining a tight footprint will be a nice benefit. Being able to repurpose the already run solar wiring from our old MPPT charge controller at the hitch end of the Airstream coupled with the additional flexibility to charge on both sides of the Airstream really make this modification appealing.
