I Bent and Ruined My Sway Control

Shanna noticed that the trailer was bouncing and the truck was feeling unsafe while on our way to visit family. We pulled into a rest stop for the night and to be safe decided to drive the 70 miles to Out of Doors Mart (now RV One). Shanna does the bulk of the driving while towing and the ride continued to feel dangerous. It was slow going. When we got to RV One, they told us our sway control was bent and not down due to overloading. We have a light duty truck, so we are careful about the payload. It was bent up shoving the truck around kind of like a forklift. They sold us a BlueOx setup and helped dial it in and we were on our way again.

After talking to the technicians, we realized when we arrived that the steep grade at one of our anchor locations for moochdocking/familial stays has an incredibly steep driveway. We had backed up the drive without removing the sway control tension and put a shallow spoon like bend in our sway control set up. It was an expensive mistake and we aren’t new to Airstreaming. Lesson learned!
